Social distancing can be tough. Staying home with the kids can be even tougher.

Here are a few resources that might help keep them busy, at least for a little while:

Pendleton Public Library

+ Request a mystery pack of books for the kids, or yourself.

+ Take a look at the library’s online resources. This includes National Geographic for kids and Kids Infobits, where you can learn about animals, plants, music, science, and sports.

+ If you don’t have a library card you can call 541.966.0380 to sign-up.

Oregon Zoo

+ Watch their live video feed of the animals at the zoo and check out their website for fun activities.

Pacific Science Center

+ Online science, technology, engineering, and mathematics focused activities and tutorials. They have a wide variety of offerings for children of all ages.

Food Hero

+ Offers fun cooking videos and nutrition information. There is a special section for kids. This program is run by Oregon State University.

Seattle Children’s Museum

+ Online offerings include sensory play activities, story times, and a kids cooking series. You can also signup for a chance to participate in a live chat with the museum’s educators.

Whether or not you have consistent access to the internet it is important to remember that kids can continue many of their regular activities, or start some new ones, as long as they are able to do so while maintaining 6 feet of space between themselves and anyone who does not live in their household.

For information about Pendleton School District’s distance learning plan and “grab and go” lunches see their website at Pendleton.k12.or.us.

Testing at Yellowhawk

Yellowhawk has received testing kits for COVID-19 and has performed 3 tests as of April 14, 2020. Each of these tests have come back negative.

The criteria to receive a test for COVID-19 include:

+ Having a severe respiratory illness that requires medical care

+ Having been exposed to someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19

Not everyone who has flu-like symptoms will be tested for COVID-19 because the testing capacities of most laboratories is limited compared to the rate of infections. It also remains true that most people who contract COVID-19 will experience a mild illness and will be able to recover at home without medical care. If you have flu-like symptoms that don’t need medical care it is recommended that you self-isolate at home while you recover.

However, if you are sick and require medical care contact your provider by phone prior to coming to the clinic.

You can see up-to-date testing information for Yellowhawk on our website www.yellowhawk.org.
