Frequently Asked Questions
What is Physical Therapy?
PT is a healthcare profession that uses physical movement of the body to diagnose, treat, and prevent conditions that may affect quality of life. Our clinic is uniquely equipped with state of the art equipment and tools to treat and manage pain, improve range of motion, and increase strength to facilitate optimal mobility.
What should I expect during Physical Therapy visits?
Your initial evaluation with the Physical Therapist will include meeting and discussing the impairments related to your medical diagnosis. The Physical Therapist evaluates your condition and sets PT goals with you. During future visits, treatments may be provided by either the Physical Therapist and/or the Physical Therapist Assistant. During your final appointment, you will meet with the Physical Therapist to assess the improvement you’ve made during the previous therapy sessions.
How do I schedule an appointment for Physical Therapy at Yellowhawk?*
Contact the Medical department to let your doctor know of your interest in Yellowhawk PT services.
*During our soft opening phase, Physical Therapy evaluations require a referral from your Yellowhawk PCP.
What if my Primary Care Provider is not from Yellowhawk?
Currently we are working on expanding Physical Therapy services to include patients with referrals from outside providers. At this time, Physical Therapy is only able to provide services to patients referred by their Yellowhawk PCP.
Where do I go for my Physical Therapy appointment?
We are located in the Northeast corner of the Yellowhawk Clinic in Public Health. You will be screened by our front entry staff and they will guide you to the Public Health waiting area. Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment. The clinic asks you to bring your insurance card for all visits.
What should I wear?
Plan on wearing comfortable clothes that allow for easy movement. Loose fitting athletic clothes are usually appropriate for most patients. Occasionally there may be treatments involving joints and muscles under clothing. We may require that you to change or wear a gown (provided by the clinic) for access to the treatment area. We value your comfort and privacy. Treatments are provided in a private treatment room and set up to professional standards for dignity and privacy.
What do I need to do during my treatment session?
Your therapist will instruct you in treatments involving movements and exercises based on your plan of care. Sometimes exercises can be challenging, but rewarding! Be certain to inform your therapist of any changes in your medical condition or medications. Please inform your therapist of any symptoms of pain, fatigue, shortness of breath, dizziness, or nausea that may develop during your treatment.
Can I bring my spouse or caregiver?
Yes, with your permission, we have a waiting area in the PT clinic and they are more than welcome to join if you wish for them to be present for treatment.
How long are the appointments?
Appointments are around 45-60 minutes.
Do I need Physical Therapy?
PT may help improve symptoms of pain, weakness, balance, and other issues associated with your diagnosis. PT is a non-surgical, non-invasive treatment option that may help you recover from and prevent further injury. Discuss with your Yellowhawk Primary Care Provider of how you may benefit from our PT services.
