Other frequently asked questions:

How many people will be vaccinated?

Our goal is to vaccinate all Yellowhawk-eligible patients, CTUIR community members and entity employees and families members ages 6 months and older. The number of people vaccinated each day depends on the number of appointments filled. Remember, to be fully vaccinated you must have two doses.

What if I miss my vaccination appointment?

It is very important that you DO NOT MISS YOUR SCHEDULED VACCINATION APPOINTMENT. We want to make sure that every dose is accounted for. Every day, we thaw the exact number of vaccine doses that are going to be used. If you miss your appointment, we will give the vaccination to someone else. If you miss your appointment, we may not be able to reschedule you until a future date.

Will I receive a full dose or a half dose?

We are giving full vaccination doses as recommended and are not offering half doses.

Which vaccine is available at Yellowhawk?

The Pfizer vaccine. The vaccine is given in two doses (3rd if eligible). You must have both doses to be fully vaccinated. On August 23, 2021, the FDA approved the first COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine has been known as the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, and will now be marketed as Comirnaty, for the prevention of COVID-19 disease in individuals 16 years of age and older. The vaccine also continues to be available under emergency use authorization (EUA), including for individuals 6 months through 15 years of age and for the administration of a third dose in certain immunocompromised individuals.

How do I know which dose I should get?

Who is eligible for Pfizer dose 1st, 2nd, or booster vaccination at Yellowhawk?

      • All Yellowhawk eligible patients
      • Pfizer 1st and 2nd dose is for 6+ months of age.
      • Pfizer 1st booster is for 5 years of age and older. Eligible for 1st booster 5 months after 2nd dose.
      • Covid-19 vaccines for the age group of 6 months+ years of age for Yellowhawk eligible patients and employee’s immediate family members. This vaccine is a three dose primary series. There are 3 weeks in between dose 1 and 2, and 8 weeks between dose 2 and 3.

Can you mix and match vaccine brands?
Yes. But ONLY the 3rd dose/Booster dose.  Learn more about 3rd dose/Booster dose from CDC here.

Will I be immune to COVID-19 after I get the vaccine?

Getting the vaccination does NOT mean you are immune. Once you are vaccinated, your immune system will recognize the COVID-19 virus and fight to protect you against getting sick. However, it typically takes a few weeks for the body to build immunity (protection against the virus that causes COVID-19) after vaccination. That means it’s possible a person could be infected with the virus that causes COVID-19, even after vaccinated.

If I already had COVID-19, do I still need to get the vaccine?

Due to the severe health risks associated with COVID-19 and the fact that re-infection with COVID-19 is possible, vaccine should be offered to you regardless of whether you already had COVID-19 infection. At this time, experts do not know how long someone is protected from getting sick again after recovering from COVID-19. The immunity someone gains from having an infection, called natural immunity, varies from person to person. We won’t know how long immunity produced by vaccination lasts until we have more data on how well the vaccines work.

Will I have any side effects from the vaccine?

As with any medicine, there are potential side effects to the COVID-19 vaccination. The most commonly reported side effects, which typically lasted several days, were pain at the injection site, tiredness, headache, muscle pain, chills, joint pain, and fever. Of note, more people experienced these side effects after the second dose than after the first dose, so it is important for vaccination providers and recipients to expect that there may be some side effects after either dose, but even more so after the second dose. Learn more about potential side effects at CVDVaccine.com
